Episode 41 Remaking The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982)

Continuing our month long Fantasy Film June the Invaders remake an 80's fantasy classic. The highest grossing independent film of it's time, The Sword & the Sorcerer looked cool, but is a narrative mess with a great core idea. It's perfect for the Jason, Trish, & Sam to remake with today's audiences in mind.

The Sword & the Sorcerer starred Lee (Hateful Eight, Django Unchained) Horsley, Kathleen (Godfather Part II) Beller, Simon (Jaws 3-D) MacCorkindale, Richard (Halloween) Lynch, Richard (Night Court, House) Moll and directed by Albert Pyun.

Triple bladed swords, greedy tyrants, vengeful sorcerers, princesses in distress, pirate captains, dungeons, castles, this film has got it all and the kitchen sink. Don't miss this weeks episode, because it's going to be a wild ride

Episode 43 Clash of the Titans (1981 vs 2010)

"Release the Kraken!"

Those words were first shouted in 1981 in the now classic Desmond Davis film Clash of the Titans with effects by the incredible Ray Harryhausen. In 2010 Louis Leterrier remade Clash with modern effects to mixed reviews. Comedian Monty Scott joins the invasion team to see who would win in a fight, Harry Hamlin's Perseus versus Sam Worthington's Perseus, or Laurence Olivier's Zeus against Liam Neeson's Zeus. We pull out all our Greek mythology knowledge and take these two fantasy films to task the only way we know, in a Clash of the Titans!

Episode 45 Fright Night (1985) Vs. Fright Night (2011)

"Welcome to Fright Night!"

That's right, we're taking on the 80's vampire horror comedy classic Fright Night (1985) versus the Fright Night (2011) remake! Tom Holland's original has retro sentimentality as well as Chris Sarandon and Roddy McDowell on his side. But Craig Gillespie brought an an all star cast in Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, Imogen Poots, and David (Doctor Who) Tennant! This is going to be a close battle.

Episode 46 Remaking Hard Rock Zombies (1985)

Proving we are completely and utterly insane, we took on our very first Fan Challenge. The challenge was to just watch Hard Rock Zombies (1985) but since we are mad as hatters, we had to remake this low budget schlock fest. Cause that is how we roll. We went into this film with no preparation, we watched it, and hit record. This is the result.

Little did we know what we would be in for. Wheelchair bound werewolf? Check. Little mongoloid zombie who eats himself? Check. Hitler? Yup, check, it's got that too. Hard Rock Zombies is full of so much insane that we could never put it all in this intro. Listen to this hilarious podcast about about this so bad, it's still bad, horror, comedy that one of you, our fans, tortured us with. You're welcome.

Episode 47 High Noon (1952) Vs. Outland (1981)

Left alone to defend an ungrateful people, two men battle against the clock and the odds to prove there own self worth in two very different but thematically similar movies. Gary Cooper leads an all-star cast alongside Grace Kelly, Lloyd Bridges, Lee Van Cleef, and Lon Chaney Jr. in the Oscar winning western High Noon (1952). While Sean Connery heads to the third moon of Jupiter, Io, with Frances Sternhagen, Peter Boyle, James Sikking, and John Ratzenberger in the science fiction movie Outland (1981).

When the clock is ticking and the remakes are against you, you can always count on Invasion of the Remake to have your back. The Invaders put these two films into an old fashioned gunfight and only one can come out alive.

Episode 48 Remaking the Last Starfighter (1984)

A young man named Alex Rogan is desperate to escape his small little world in the Starlight Starbright trailer park. His only escape is in the one arcade game at the trailer park, Starfighter. Alex had no idea this game would be the gateway to another life among the stars as a reluctant hero.

Invasion of the Remake goes back to a childhood favorite in The Last Starfighter (1984) rethinking it as a modern remake and how modern gaming might change this sci-fi, adventure film, while still considering the more personal elements that affect Alex's life. Strap yourselves into your Gunstars cause this one is going to be a blast of awesome!

Lesson #1 comes from Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean and his Ocean's 11 Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford, Richard Conte, Joey Bishop, Henry Silva, Buddy Lester, Richard Benedict, Norman Fell, and Clem Harvey. Lesson #2 comes from George Clooney as (you guessed it) Danny Ocean and his Ocean's Eleven Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Scott Caan, Casey Affleck, Carl Reiner, Elliott Gould, Eddie Jemison, and Shaobo Qin.
