Episode 112 A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984 Vs. 2010)

Invasion of the Remake puts on a pot of coffee because Freddy Krueger is bringing his rusted, blood stained claw glove to the podcast. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) introduced a new Slasher to the world, Freddy Krueger, it revived a dying genre, and made horror icons our of Robert Englund, and Heather Langenkamp. It also introduced the world to megastar Johnny Depp! In 2010, as remake mania was at a fever pitch, all sorts of horror icons were getting a facelift including Freddy Krueger. Jackie Earl Haley replaces an aging Robert Englund in the Platinum Dunes remake accompanied by Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Kyle Gallner, and Kellan Lutz. Whose dreams are darker? Whose glove is sharper? Invasion of the Remake has all the answers because we surly aren't sleeping anytime soon.

This week Invasion of the Remake catches the 3:10 To Yuma and we sure hope we're not late. That Wade gang is hot on our tail and leaving a trail of blood and bullets in their wake. Thankfully we still have time to cover the classic Glenn Ford & Van Heflin film (1957)  and the star studded remake (2007). Russell Crowe, Christian Bale Ben Foster, and Logan Lerman star in the James Mangold remake alongside Peter Fonda, Vinessa Shaw, Alan Tudyk, Gretchen Mol, and Kevin Durand. Episode 117 Remaking Reindeer Games (2000)

What's the first thing you'd do if you just got out of jail? Would it be to pretend to you are your dead cellmate so you could date his jailhouse fiance? Would it be to plan a heist with thugs who think you are your dead cellmate? Well, if you thought those were good ideas, boy do we got the movie for you. Despite its silly premise Reindeer Games (2000) has an impressive lineup of actors starring in this action, holiday flick. Ben Affleck takes the lead alongside Charlize Theron, Gary Sinise, and Danny Trejo with the incredible John Frankenheimer directing! That's a lot of Oscar nominated or winning talent right there. Invasion of the Remake gets into their best Santa costumes to unwrap this bizarre action film and try to pull out the best of it to rethink, and theoretically remake Reindeer Games. Won't you join us? No one is left out of our Reindeer Games!

Episode 119 Remaking Strange Days (1995)

It's New Years Eve 1999. People's memories and experiences are being bought, sold, and traded as a commodity, almost like a a euphoric drug. A terrible murder has taken place that can rock the world, and its terrible secrets are in play. Bodies are mounting to keep this secret buried and Lenny Nero is at the center of it.

To celebrate the New Year we look at Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days (1995) which takes place on the eve of the new millennium where there is social unrest and uncertainty in the future. It was a bomb at the box office but a hidden gem that must be shared and discussed. It starred Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, Tom Sizemore, Michael Wincott, Vincent D'Onofrio, and William Fichtner. Join us as we discuss this underappreciated neo-noir sci-fi classic and rethink it with a new cast and new ideas. Want to know what a remake might look like? This is the show for you!

Episode 120 Assault On Precinct 13 (1976 Vs. 2005)

Whether it is for vengeance or to cover up illegal activities, it is going to be a long night for the closing Precinct 13 that none may survive. Before Halloween, before the Fog, before Escape from New York, before The Thing, John Carpenter made the low budget, action, thriller Assault On Precinct 13 (1976). A simple idea that was inspired by Romero's Night of the Living Dead as a faceless gang lays siege to a closing precinct. In 2005 based on a screenplay by James (The Purge) DeMonaco, Jean-Francois Richet would remake Carpenter's classic with an all-star cast including Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Gabriel Byrne, Maria Bello, Drea de Matteo, John Leguizamo, Brian Dennehy, and rapper Ja Rule. This week Invasion of the Remake gets inside Precinct 13 to compare, contrast, and ultimately see which film will survive the Assualt on Precinct 13.
